Tengoku no inu is a type of mountain goblin in Japanese folklore. Tengus have long noses and are renowned for their fighting skills. A few Usagi Yojimbo stories have featured Tengus. Usagi encountered a Tengu as a young boy and almost lost his hand. Katsuchi Sensei bailing him out at the last minute. It is heavily implied that Katsuchi Sensei had sought out and encountered the Tengu in his youth, and had cut off the creature's hand.
