Chizu is an anthropomorphic cat and main character in the Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles Netflix series. A ninja of the Neko Ninja Clan, Chizu was originally spying on the Ki-stone but when forced to turn against her new friends, she chose them over the clan. In season two, she fights Lady Fuwa for leadership of the clan and vows to reform it.

History[]

Chizu was stolen from an orphanage by the Neko Ninja Crew leader, Lady Fuwa, before she was even a year old, and for her whole life, has been under the Ninja master's cruel tutelage. When Chizu was still a child, she had only one friend, Kaiyo. One day, when Chizu was hiding from Lady Fuwa and another one of her painful lessons, Kaiyo comforted Chizu and gave her a piece of friendship candy, promising to always be there for her. Lady Fuwa discovered this, and cruelly had Kaiyo taken away so that Chizu may never see her again. She did this both to strip Chizu of her so-called weakness and to remind her that her sole loyalty is to Lady Fuwa. Since then, Chizu has been groomed by the Neko Crew leader through traumatization and emotional manipulation to become a top student, and Lady Fuwa's "favorite".

Eventually, Lady Fuwa assigned Chizu to take up a job at the Ki-Stone Temple under Priest Tetsujin, with orders to gather information and find the Scroll of Secrets. This was so that the Neko Ninja could steal the Ki-Stone. It was by working under this cover that Chizu eventually met Yuichi Usagi and the others.

Relationships[]

Kitsune[]

Kitsune and Chizu have a close relationship. Chizu initially refuses to accept her new friends but Kitsune always tries to convince her. Kitsune gave her friendship candy which sparked a memory from Chizu's past, where she tried to hide her friendship with another girl but was forced away from her by Lady Fuwa. To avoid the same heart break, Chizu tries to keep her distance. Eventually Chizu chooses Kitsune and the others over the Neko Ninja clan and tries to make things right with Kitsune. Chizu begs for her forgiveness and refuses to leave her alone when she is upset. Testujin states that Chizu "broke her heart." However, Kitsune does come around to forgive her is happy when Chizu finally admits that they're all friends.

Later, when Chizu becomes the new leader of the Ninja clan, she hugs Kitsune farewell, saying that she values their friendship even if they have to separate. Though, she surprises Kitsune as her birthday present and Kitsune reaffirms they are still a family.

Usagi[]

Like the others, Chizu was annoyed by Usagi on their first meeting. She supported Gen and Kitsune's desire to beat him up and tried to force him out of the temple. Usagi was quick to notice her expert fighting skills, but Chizu tried to brush it off and lie. Usagi often ignores or doesn't hear Chizu's concerns and jumps into fights without thinking, which frustrates her. Chizu is much more blunt about her feelings and doesn't feel the need to coddle Usagi. He is also the least bothered by her brief betrayal. The two team up to sneak in to Neko Ninja base and Usagi is shocked by the treatment of the ninja children like Hana. He shown to be sympathetic to Chizu when he discovers her backstory. In the finale of season one, Chizu finally admits that she cares about him and their friends and cries over Usagi when he is knocked unconscious. When he wakes, he is happy and teases Chizu for secretly liking them.

Lady Fuwa[]

Lady Fuwa is Chizu's mentor and leader. She kidnapped Chizu as a baby from an orphanage and forced her to be a ninja. She sees Chizu as her favorite and Chizu is terrified of her. When Chizu was a child, she had a secret friendship with another girl. Lady Fuwa was quick to sniff them out and as punishment she forced the two apart and they never saw each other again. Lady Fuwa is cruel and abusive to all her ninjas but sees her treatment as a way to make Chizu and the other ninjas stronger. Chizu is forced to choose between the clan and her new friends and turns against Lady Fuwa, who vows to make her pay.

Fighting Style[]

Being trained as a ninja since infancy, and being Lady Fuwa's top student, Chizu is an extremely adept martial artist, highly versed in the ways of combat and espionage. Her practice of Ninjutsu, a martial art that covers a wide range of weaponry, allows Chizu to use more than one weapon style. As a ninja, Chizu uses the signature shuriken to attack enemies at a distance, as well as a pair of wrist-mounted crossbows that fold into her bracers. At close range, she uses a naginata that has an extendable pole which keeps her at a safe distance from opponents while at the same time keeping them in range of her attacks. It is kept strapped on her back fully collapsed when not in use.

At the start of Season 2, Chizu and the others are chosen by the Ki-Stone as Kaikishi Warriors, and she chooses a bow as her Kaikishi Weapon. Chizu's bow is collapsible, and capable of generating its own arrows that can not only take on different shapes and numbers, but can also seek out their targets so she never misses.
